Terrific Sauvignon Blanc Under $9.00 AND Extra Special Craft Beer Offer

There is a lot to love about the Loire and that is obvious to anyone who enjoys stunning Sancerre. Over the last few years, the interest in Sauvignon Blanc in general throughout the entirety of the Loire has increased and many non-Sancerre Sauvignon Blancs are being thoroughly enjoyed (at a much lower price point we might add). One Loire producer that we have always looked to for such a great quality/value combo is Paul Buisse.

Paul Buisse is a family business that has been closely tied to the wine industry in France for over 100 years. As with most French wine producers, they started by focusing on table wine that could be enjoyed in larger quantities throughout France and beyond. In 1955, Jean Buisse shifted the focus of the estate into making higher quality wine and started buying additional plots of land with limestone rich soil, perfect for creating quality wines. The Touraine Appellation is one of these that Jean purchased and is where the family established their home. It would also be the future site of the outstanding Sauvignon Blanc we are looking at today.

Today, we are looking at the outstanding 2015 vintage and a wine that offers great value and quality that even Leslie and Kevin admit they enjoy.Glass Divider

Château Roc de Segur is located in the appellation of Entre-Deux-Mers, which means "between two tides" namely the Garonne and Dordogne that separate left bank and right bank Bordeaux. The area is known for producing estate grown wines from single parcels of older vines unlike most of the Bordeaux AOC. The estate takes its name from an ancient quarry alongside the property near the river Segur.

For those interested in history, this region was often fought over in the Middle Ages between the French and English and the name Segur comes from an Old French word meaning "safe" and/or "secure."

Having worked with Bordeaux quite a lot over the years, once we sampled this wine, we knew it stood out and was a safe choice to add to our selection even before hearing the price. When we did find out the price we couldn't help but be thoroughly impressed. It is rare to find good quality Bordeaux under $20.00, but this one delivers and then some. Bottle Divider

Château Roc de Segur 2015 -
Bordeaux Supérieur

Not as dry and tannic as your average Bordeaux, this wine boasts plenty of dark fruit thanks to the outstanding vintage and limestone rich soils the vines grow in. It is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The time it sees in oak barrels helps to round it out nicely while still remaining soft and smooth.
