Spain Overdelivers Again!

Hi Everyone,

It's time to hang out with Harley B and discover some
great values in wine!

Before we start I want to share some big news. I've been practicing my sits, downs, touches (with my nose, how cute is that?), stays and recalls and Mom and Dad said I'm doing really great!

These moves really seem to make my parents happy so I do them a lot. It's so much fun. When I'm not in training I pour over wine articles and books so I can learn about different grapes and regions. This also makes Mom and Dad very happy because I'm a dog in a wine family after all.

Man, oh man, these Brits can really write scholarly books. I don't even know half of the words in here, but I really love helping out with the wine business so I'm doing my best.

I even suggested Mom and Dad rename the store Handsome Harley's Wine & Spirits Emporium. Mom and Dad laughed and then changed the subject. They didn't think I would notice because I'm still a puppy, but I'm over five months old now so I'm starting to catch on to their bait and switch tricks!

So back to the wine biz. Today we're heading over to Spain to explore three wines produced by legendary winemaker Juan Gil. All of these wines have great press and they also happen to sell for a song (um, I mean a woof).

Harley caught in the act studying Spanish wine in the garden.

Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil Honoro Vera Organic Monastrell 2014

"Deep spice-laced black and blue fruits on the nose. Fleshy and broad on the palate, offering gently sweet blackberry and cherry liqueur flavors and hints of allspice and licorice. The finish is at once rich and energetic, with solid thrust and late-arriving tannins lending shape. This wine is aged entirely in stainless steel." (Josh Raynolds, Vinous)

Vinous: 90 points

The pleasing nose reveals notes of underbrush, mineral, and blueberry leading to a savory, spicy, nicely balanced medium-bodied wine.

$11.99/bottle or $115.10/12 pack case ($9.59/bottle) or just $9.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil Honoro Vera Rueda 2014

"Fresh citrus fruits and melon on the fruity nose and in the mouth. A floral note comes up with aeration, along with a hint of candied ginger. Finishes clean and tangy, with good clarity and length and repeating spiciness. This nervy wine would drink well by itself or with light seafood and vegetable dishes." (Vinous)

Vinous: 88 points

$11.99/bottle or $115.10/12 pack case ($9.59/bottle) or just $9.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Bodegas Juan Gil Honoro Vera Garnacha 2014

"Deep ruby. Powerful red fruit liqueur aromas are enlivened by sexy floral and Asian spice nuances. Fleshy, palate-coating raspberry and spicecake flavors show very good ripeness leavened by tangy acidity. At once rich and lively, this Garnacha wine finishes sweet, silky and long, with a hint of fine-grained tannins adding grip. An amazing value." (Vinous)

At less than $10/bottle all of these wines are fantastic and perfect for summer sipping.

Have a great week!!!
