One Day Only Flash Sale: Friday, December 21

Well, well. Tomorrow we have another first. The Mayan calendar officially runs out, giving rise to speculation about the potential end of time as we know it. Whether or not there's any validity to this freaky fact, we thought it would be fun to drink a REALLY good bottle of wine tomorrow night (because either way, we win!).

We thought about what our requirements would be for this special wine and we came up with one simple prerequisite. The wine has to have a minimum score of 94 points (or more) from major press. Whoah, that sounds extravagant, but if the end of time is hurling at warp speed toward us tomorrow then that's sort of a game changer, right? So why not indulge in something special?

We don't want to be stingy on this historic evening, so we've decided to share the love. Starting tomorrow morning at 9 am and ending at 9 pm (no pun intended), we're having a special one day flash sale on all wines in the store with a score of 94 points or more. There is one condition though. We respectfully request you raise your glass and toast to us tomorrow night!

Now let's get down to business. While there's still time.  :o)

Domaine Giraud Tradition Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2009

“Reveals deep kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with raspberries, smoked herbs, roasted meats and hoisin sauce. Complex, with great fruit, a voluptuous mouthfeel, low acidity and sweet tannin, it can be consumed over the next 10-15 years." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94 points

Regularly $44.99/bottle, on sale for one day only for just $35.09/bottle (that's 22% savings for your karma bank).

Clos St. Jean Vieilles Vignes Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2009

"The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes reveals supple tannins, a velvety texture, good opulence and low acidity. The wine is full-bodied, less intense in the mid-palate than the 2010, and already complex and evolved. It can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15+ years." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94 points

This beauty is regularly $46.99/bottle, but you can pop one open tomorrow night for just $36.65/bottle. Oh, my.

Ridge Montebello 2006

"The 2006 Monte Bello (68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) is a very strong effort. Its dense purple color is followed by copious aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, spice box, and a touch of oak. Well-balanced, dense, pure, layered, and rich, its big, rich style is similar to the 2003. This cuvee should keep for 25-30 years in a cool cellar. Ridge’s iconic Monte Bello Proprietary Red (no longer called Cabernet Sauvignon) is one of the candidates for the longest-lived Bordeaux blend made in California." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94+ points

This bad boy is normally $154.99/bottle of pure joy, but tomorrow it can be yours for just $120.89. Please drink this with a big slab of beef for us (and don't forget the toast!).

Torbreck Descendant Shiraz 2004

"The 2004 Descendant, an old oak-aged blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier from a 12-year old vineyard, offers up notes of blackberries, ink, sweet truffles, and acacia flowers. There are 1,000 cases of this full-bodied, intense, rich blockbuster. It will drink well for 10-15 years." (Robert Parker, Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 98 points

This monster of a wine is ready to drink RIGHT NOW. While you may not turn your head at its normal price of $99.99/bottle, we do think you should give it a second glance at just $77.99/bottle.

Caymus Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

“So delicious now, you can hardly keep your hands off it. Blackberry tart, ripe blueberry, cassis, milk chocolate, licorice and sweet, smoky cedar flavors flood the mouth, dramatically huge and memorable, and lasting long into the finish. The tannins are obvious, but sweetly ripe and soft. A brilliant evocation of Napa Cabernet. Shows the class and potency this bottling has exhibited for many years, and believe it or not, the price is a is a relative bargain these days. Drink now-2020.” (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Enthusiast: 97 points

This smooth bottle of deliciousness awaits. You know you want it, don't you? You would normally have to cough up $149.99/bottle, but on this unusual day its just $116.99/bottle. Even the Mayans would want to get in on this action!

Billecart-Salmon Nicolas Francois Champagne 2000

"The 2000 Brut Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart impresses for its sheer purity and focus. Nothing is out of place in this beautifully delineated, precise wine. Cool, minty notes add lift, yet the 2000 is rather reticent at this stage and appears to need further bottle age. Still, its textural finesse is impossible to miss." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94 points

"A wine that strikes a great balance between its intense fruitiness and a pure steely character. It makes it a dry Champagne, with the richness of a great wine. It has weight, intensity and several years more aging." (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Enthusiast: 95 points, Cellar Selection

Mmmmm. Nothing says party like bubbles. Particularly vintage Champagne. You can hang with the cool wine geeks if you sport this knock-out in your hands. Regularly $99.99/bottle, now a jaw dropping $77.99/bottle. At 22% discount, this is a screaming deal for an amazing bottle of wine.

Vindemio Imagine 2010

"An absolutely outrageous value and a great wine in its own right, the equal part blend of Syrah and Grenache, the 2010 Vindemio Imagine, is also aged completely in concrete casks, This is an amazing wine, displaying notes of meat juices, spring flowers, black raspberries, blackberries and cassis. Full-bodied, unctuously textured, rich and full, but with remarkable purity and freshness, this is a terrific effort from proprietor Jean Marot. Drink it over the next 5-7 years, although it could actually last a lot longer." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 95 points

At $24.99/bottle this wine isn't going to break the bank, but at $19.49/bottle it's an outright bargain. Hello high scoring Southern Rhone!

Clos Erasmus Laurel 2008

"The Clos I Terrasses Laurel Cuvee is essentially the second wine of Clos Erasmus. It is sourced from the estate's younger vines. The result is one of the finest values in the DO of Priorat. The 2008 Laurel is purple in color with a nose of exotic spices that jumps from the glass. Included in the array are notes of mineral, tapenade, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense on the palate with a deft combination of power and elegance, this is a remarkably fresh effort due to the acidity level." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94 points

Always a silky favorite, this wine is normally $59.99/bottle. Special flash sale price tomorrow is just $47.99/bottle. Yes, please!

Clos Erasmus I Terrasus 2009

"An explosively perfumed, fruit-dominated bouquet displays raspberry liqueur, cherry-cola and candied plum, with notes of violet and incense adding complexity.  Deeply pitched but energetic in the mouth, offering sappy red and dark berry flavors and a smooth, seamless texture.  Floral and spice notes linger on a very long, subtly smoky finish." (Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar)

International Wine Cellar: 95 points

This is one of Spain's most illustrious wines, and also one of the most difficult to obtain. On a normal day it sells for $199.99/bottle. On Friday only you can test drive one of the world's greatest wines for just $155.99/bottle.

Elvio Cogno Cascina Nuova Barolo 2006

"Wow, what a wonderful wine, delivering rich notes of black fruit, vanilla, cherry and spice. But the aromas are in no way obvious. In fact, this is an ethereal and elegant wine that pays attention to the little details, like the light shadings of polished stone and violets that liven up the long finish. Drink after 2018." (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Enthusiast: 94 points

$49.99/bottle on a good day. On Friday it will be $38.99/bottle. At least until 9 pm. We just love Barolo.

Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2009

"Shafer consistently produces one of the biggest, fruitiest Chardonnays in California, and yet the wine remains balanced and interesting. The 2009 Red Shoulder Ranch is gigantic in pineapples, pears, mangoes, tangerines and honey, yet so minerally and crisp that somehow it finishes dry." (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Enthusiast: 96 points

Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of the Year: Rank #8

"Pure, ripe and richly flavored, with tiers of nectarine, fig, honeysuckle and smoky oak. Full-bodied, with touches of citrus blossom and lemon peel. 6,000 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 93 points

Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of the Year: Rank #65

There's a lot of press and hype surrounding this wine. So why not try one? It's a good value at its normal price of $51.99, but at $40.55/bottle you Chardonnay fans should stock up.

Marenco Pineto Brachetto d'Acqui NV

"True desert island wine. This finds its richness in perfectly ripe fruit, from red apples to wild raspberries. Balanced and poised, its length feels focused by the interpaly of sweetness and bitterness. It's perfectly refreshing, and almost impossible to put down. You could drink it anytime, with almost anything." (Wine & Spirits Magazine)

Wine & Spirits Magazine: 94 points, Best Piedmont Sparkling

How does that song go? Brachetto and chocolate sitting in a tree. They might as well be kissing because they're a match made in heaven. Normally $23.99/bottle, now on flash sale for just $18.71/bottle. One day only.

Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

"The utterly profound 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc) will benefit from several years of bottle age, and should keep for 25-30 years. This extraordinary effort exhibits notes of blueberries, cassis, spring flowers, licorice, and forest floor. Beautifully pure and full-bodied with excellent overall harmony as well as superb purity, it reveals a Chateau Margaux-like personality. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2030." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 96 points

"Tasted in a big lineup of St. Helena Cabernets, Spottswoode’s magnificent ’05 stood out. It’s a massive powerhouse, explosive in black currant, cherry pie, plum, chocolate, anise and cedar flavors that are detailed and precise. However, the wine, which was blended with a little Cabernet Franc, is graceful and balanced. Drinkable now due to its softly refined tannins, but has the integrity to ride out the years." (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Enthusiast: 97 points

Alright, so we're pulling out the stops here. And there isn't more than mere bottle stock in our private stash we reserve for serious wine lovers. You'll have to email us to obtain this one. This legendary Cabernet is normally $147.99/bottle, but you can have one at $115.43/bottle if you're extra nice.

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2006

"Literally explodes onto the palate with masses of dark cherries, plums, wild herbs, menthol and spices. Hard candy and gorgeous inner perfume emerge from a sweet, ripe and totally expressive core. The finish is elegant, decisive and eternal.  It is a Brunello to buy and bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. It is a mythical, legendary wine in the making. The Brunello spent 40 months in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 98 points

Holy moly, this might not be one to open tomorrow night. However, if you think the whole Mayan calendar is sketchy, then why not stock up and save? Regularly $199.99/bottle, it's now on special flash sale for $155.99/bottle. Not bad for a mythical and legendary wine in the making, eh?

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

"The flagship 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon comes predominantly from the famous Champoux Vineyard in which the winery is a partner. It was aged in 100% new oak. It sports a deep purple-color with a captivating nose of spice box, sandalwood, truffle, Asian spices, incense, black cherry, and black currant. Opulent on the palate (but elegant as well), it already reveals serious complexity, density, and succulence of fruit. Enjoyable now but with at least 8-10 years of cellaring potential, this marvelous effort should have a 30 year lifespan.

In 1990, in Issue 69, after tasting a complete vertical of Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, I wrote that the winery was producing Washington’s (and possibly America’s) finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Little has changed in the intervening years. The winery has been upgraded and the portfolio has been expanded, while quality remains at the summit." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 99 points

Oh no, we didn't!!! This liquid gold is nearly impossible to obtain, and for good reason. For the last EIGHT vintages, this wine has received either a 99 or 100 point score. Seriously, who does that?!? Normally $201.99/bottle, now available for $157.55/bottle. Not bad for a piece of history.

P.S.

Alright, now that we've offered up some amazing wines (all for 22% discount off regular price), it's time to reveal our stunner. Purchase 6 bottles of any of these wines and receive a special 24% discount on all of them.

Here's looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
