How Did The King of Italian Wines Get Below $25?!?

One afternoon in April we were meeting with one of the most influential wine buyers in the state at his office in Norwood. He's responsible for purchasing a good chunk of the elite wines coming into MA. He hand selected forty wines for us to taste that afternoon, each one more unique and interesting than the last.

We found many beautiful wines for the store that day, but one wine really stood out. Not just because it was delicious. It was. Not just because it's an appellation we absolutely adore. After all, who doesn't love Barolo? It is the undisputed King of Italian wine for good reason.

When Barolo is good it's truly capable of capturing your heart and your mind. This one did both.

Over to the Wine Advocate for a moment.

Ascheri Barolo 2010Ascheri Barolo 2010

"The 2010 Barolo Ascheri is aged in 60% neutral oak and 40% new oak and fruit is sourced from the La Morra township where Barolo shows some of its most elegant results. This is by far the most complete wine in the Ascheri portfolio with extra layers of fleshiness and structure. The results are very gratifying for this inaugural wine from Matteo Ascheri (that will only be produced in the best vintages). Drink: 2017-2028.

The big news from Matteo Ascheri is the introduction of a new wine, the Barolo Ascheri, inaugurated with the 2010 vintage. Matteo describes it as a wine that is as much about place as it is family roots: It so happens that his last name "Ascheri" is also the official vineyard designate. Barolo Ascheri will only be produced in the best years. Although the winemaking headquarters are in Bra, Matteo Ascheri owns vineyards and feels philosophically connected to Serralunga d'Alba. For this reason, I have grouped this winery in that township." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 92 points

Did you catch the fact that this wine is only made in the best vintages? If the weather is bad that year or the harvest is underperforming in any way, Ascheri will simply not make this wine. This means it could be several years before it's made again. Talk about quality control!

Most quality Barolos start in the $50/bottle price range and soar upwards from there. That's not the case today.

One of our favorite wholesalers happens to be importing this wine directly into MA so there's no middleman taking a cut and consequently driving the price up into its normal range. So hold onto your hats! We're about to drop a pretty sweet deal into your lap. No questions asked.

Starting today you can pick up Ascheri Barolo for the remarkable price of $34.99/bottle. Woot! Woot!

We just love a screaming deal like this. It almost seems too good to be true, but trust us on this one. The wine is delicious and it's a STUNNING value.

So did we mention the wholesaler really, really likes us? They understand our passion for wine and our commitment to bringing you the best there is to offer. They also know there's not another wine retailer on the Cape with such a remarkable wine selection so they made us an offer we couldn't refuse.

Are you sitting down?

You might need to in a moment.

We're taking orders now for solid cases of Ascheri Barolo for just $288/12 pack case. That comes down to the almost laughable price of $24/bottle (over 31% savings off an already low price!).

A Barolo for less than $25 is, quite frankly, an anomaly.

A Barolo with a glowing 92 point score from the most important wine reviewer on the planet for less than $25? Let's just say,

THIS ONE IS A SLAM DUNK.

We're going to be taking orders for solid cases of this wine until the wholesaler runs out. You can order a case by replying to this email or you can call the store to reserve it. Shipments will be arriving on Wednesday and Friday next week. In the meantime, we have limited quantities of the wine in stock if you want to try a bottle first.

P.S.

We very quickly sold out of the Portada Winemaker's Blend, the Fondreche Fayard and the Cune Rioja Reserva from last week's email. All wines are now happily back in stock. While you're here be sure to check out the arrival of La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904 (96 points Wine Advocate). Talk about a special wine!

P.P.S.

For those of you subscribed to our private wine tasting email list, we'll be sending out notice next week of a spectacular wine tasting event with one of our favorite importers coming up on June 6. If you're not on our invitation list you can send us an email and we'll be certain to send you the invite.
