Raats Old Vine 2013 (South Africa: Stellenbosch)

Name Raats Old Vine 2013
Varietal chenin Blanc
Region South Africa: Stellenbosch
Notes "The 2013 Old Vine Chenin Blanc comes from three vineyards between sandstone and granite soils, the former lending the weight and the latter, the freshness. It is raised 30% in oak and 70% in stainless steel for nine months. It has a tightly wound nose at first, with subtle quince and yellow flower, Mirabelle scents that take time to unfurl. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, rounded and voluminous on the entry and then curving in from both sides on the pretty, white peach and Mirin tinged finish. This is very classy." (Neal Martin, Wine Advocate)

Additional Notes

"Well-focused, with a touch of brioche underscoring the pretty yellow apple and green melon flavors. A flash of heather shows on the finish. Very tasty. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 280 cases imported." (Wine Spectator) "Wild herbs, pineapple and brown spices on the nose, plus a whiff of stone. Very rich and pliant but fresh, conveying a subtle sweetness to its complex flavors of pineapple, lemongrass, ginger and toast. Finishes persistent and lively, with good length and a light touch." (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous)
