Friday's Wine Tasting
Our weekly summer wine tastings are back in motion and this year we have some of the most exciting importers on the planet joining us. So let's start with chatting up this Friday's tasting from 4-7 pm.
This week we have a wholesaler with us from M.S. Walker, which is one of our favorite distributors. His name is Howie and he's going to be pouring some DELICIOUS wines. This tasting is definitely worth a quick trip to the store. Your taste buds will thank you!
Cono Sur Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2012 ($14.99)
This brand new line from the chilean powerhouse Cono Sur is worth a taste. The strong Pacific Ocean influence and red clayish soils concur to foster this refreshing, crisp, pale yellow-green wine. In the nose, fine citrus notes of grapefruit combine with green apples and white peaches. It's a fresh and delicate Sauvignon Blanc, with a crisp and balanced mouth feel and a very pleasant minerality.
La Lastra Vernacchia 2011 ($16.99)
This tiny production Italian white is tasty. We actually visited this estate a few years ago and we can vouch for the high quality of their small family operation.
"A mix of peach, apricot and citrus flavors mark this vibrant white, which leaves a mouthwatering impression. 450 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)
Wine Spectator: 85 points
Chateau Puech Haut Rosé 2012 ($17.99)
Hands down, the best rosé anywhere for its price. This beautiful and elegant rosé has long been a favorite of ours. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Cinsault. This wine comes from vines 30-60 years old, planted on clay calcareous soil. The Prestige Rosé is finished in a unique opaque bottle with an all glass closure. The medium-bodied, dry, vibrant Prestige exhibits a delicate light pink color along with fresh notes of strawberries, kirsch and minerals.
Cono Sur Reserva Pinot Noir 2012 ($14.99)
This is a very expressive, friendly and voluptuous Pinot Noir from Casablanca Valley, which has been distinguished for its outstanding aromatics qualities. Crisp, distinct notes of plum, morello cherry and raspberry combine harmonically with subtler floral, coffee and chocolate hints. Expressive, balanced and pleasantly lingering.
Capcanes Mas Picosa 2011 ($14.99)
We really like this wine and drink it at home.
"Assertive aromas of candied dark berries and spicecake, with a zesty mineral topnote. Juicy, penetrating blackberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good depth and pick up a peppery element with air. Finishes tangy and long, with resonating spiciness and a hint of candied flowers." (International Wine Cellar) 70% Garnacha and 30% Syrah. Organically grown grapes.
International Wine Cellar: 90 points
Cantele Salice Salentino 2009 ($12.99)
We had high expectations for this Southern Italian red, given that it's a Gambero Rosso "3 Bicchieri" (3 Glasses) winner AND their pick for the Best Value Wine of 2013. This delicious red has notes of candied fruits and spices that transition to underbrush and tea notes. It has wonderful tannins and acidity which find a pleasant balance. Pairs well with roast veal, lamb, game and ripe cheeses. A screaming value!
