Two Spectacular Wine Tastings This Weekend

Oooh, la la.

We have two spectacular wine tastings this weekend.

The first is on Friday, July 26 from 4-7 pm with Tony Espinoza from Carolina Wine & Spirits. Here's a sneak peek at what he'll be featuring.

Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet 2012

Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet 2012

Love this wine. The Muscadets from Marc Ollivier are some of the best wines in the appellation. They are delicious and fresh in their youth and yet ageworthy as well. This wine is made with care and left on the lees for an extended period of time to accentuate the wine's inherent crispness and add complexity. This is a classic oyster wine, but would be delicious with shrimp, lobster, crab and other seafood. And the price is fantastic for the quality!

$13.99/bottle or $134.30/12 pack case ($11.19/bottle) or just $11.19/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Jean-Paul Brun Terres Dorees Beaujolais Blanc 2011

Jean-Paul Brun Terres Dorees Beaujolais Blanc 2011

In the early 1990's Jean-Paul Brun planted several hectares of Chardonnay on limestone soil. As demand increased, he expanded his holdings and began contracting for grapes with other local vignerons with limestone soils. The clay-limestone soil is perfect for Chardonnay. The warm climate allows Jean-Paul to produce a rich wine with lots of character while the limestone soil adds a fresh, mineral component. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks which are laid on their side as Jean-Paul believe that this method adds more lees contact. A nice choice in entry level Burgundy.

Bollig-Lehnert Riesling Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett 2011

Bollig-Lehnert Riesling Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett 2011

We adore this German winery.

"Apple compote and black currant flavors are present, accompanied by hints of pineapple. Finishes with delicate spicy notes that are framed by plenty of pastry accents. Drink now through 2024. 660 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

$14.99/bottle or $143.90/12 pack case ($11.99/bottle) or just $11.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Miraval Rose 2012

Miraval Rose 2012

"Refined and elegant, offering pure and concentrated flavors of dried red berry, tangerine and melon. The focused finish features flint and spice notes, with a hint of cream. Drink now. 15,000 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 90 points

This wine is made by the prestigious Perrin family, yet it's owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt who recently purchased the winery in Provence. Don't let that put you off though, this is elegant wine in a beautiful bottle with great press.

$24.99/bottle or $239.90/12 pack case ($19.99/bottle) or just $19.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Famille Perrin Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2010

Famille Perrin Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2010

Speaking of the Perrin family, here's a tasty wine that's easy on the wallet.

"A light-bodied, floral style, offering violet, high-toned cherry and damson plum notes that carry through the sandalwood-framed finish." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 86 points

"Cherry and dark berries on the pungent nose. Offers gently sweet blackberry and cherry flavors and picks up slight bitterness with air. Finishes on a smoky note, with good energy and a touch of bitter cherry." (International Wine Cellar)

$11.99/bottle or $115.10/12 pack case ($9.59/bottle) or just $9.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir 2012

Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir 2012

Dark and rich, showing toasty mocha oak flavors, with a beam of wild berry, raspberry, cola, vanilla and spice. Long on the finish. A layered blend of Santa Barbara's spice-filled aromas, Sonoma's bright berry flavors, and Monterey's rich texture. A big wine for big Pinot lovers.

$22.99/bottle or $220.70/12 pack case ($18.39/bottle) or just $18.39/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

And then on Saturday, July 27 we're having a BLOCKBUSTER tasting with the importer Eric Solomon's European Cellars from 3-6 pm. This is their only appearance on Cape Cod this year, so please be sure to stop in and taste some remarkable wines with Kristin.

Lafage Cote Este 2012

This is a very tasty summer white with an intoxicating perfume of dried apricots, honeyed citrus and white flowers. The lovely aromatics are followed by a crisp, elegant, slightly more textured, medium-bodied white with wonderful purity, freshness and length. A blend of 60% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Marsanne.

$11.99/bottle or $115.10/12 pack case ($9.59/bottle) or just $9.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Rafael Palacio Sabrego Godello 2011

Rafael Palacio Sabrego Godello 2011

We're obsessed with Godello. You should be too.

"Made from 80-year-old Godello (an indigenous Spanish white wine grape) and aged on its lees in tank for 4-5 months, the 2011 Sabrego is a joint venture between Rafael Palacios and Eric Solomon. It exhibits copious aromas of poached pears, spring flowers, white corn along with crisp, elegant flavors. Purity, balance and a stony intensity bring to mind a French Chablis as well as a dry Alsace Pinot Blanc. It is a top bargain in complex, dry white wine. Drink it over the next 1-2 years." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 88 points

"Intensely perfumed scents of lemon and blood pith, dried pear and anise, complicated by a subtle almond quality. Deep, pliant orchard and pit fruits on the palate, with refreshingly bitter quinine and tarragon notes on the back end. Dusty minerality adds bite and grip to the long, tangy finish, which leaves a note of tarragon behind." (Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar)

$14.99/bottle or $143.90/12 pack case ($11.99/bottle) or just $11.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Chateau Puech Haut Prestige Rose 2012

Chateau Puech Haut Prestige Rose 2012

This beautiful and elegant rose has long been a favorite of ours. We think it's the single best rose for under $20 in the market, which is why it flows like water in our house. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Cinsault. This wine emerges from vines 30-60 years old, planted on clay calcareous soil. The Prestige Rosè is finished in a unique opaque bottle with an all glass closure. The medium-bodied, dry, vibrant Prestige exhibits a delicate light pink color along with fresh notes of strawberries, kirsch and minerals.

$17.99/bottle or $172.70/12 pack case ($14.39/bottle) or just $14.39/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Domaine La Casenove La Garrigue 2009

Domaine La Casenove La Garrigue 2009

It may be summer, but we still drink reds. Think burgers or steak on the grill.

"The stunning 2009 La Garrigue (40% Carignan, 40% Syrah and 20% Grenache aged 7 months in tank) is a terrific example of how much wine one can buy for under $20 a bottle. An opaque ruby/purple color is followed by notes of cassis, blackberries, lavender, licorice, pepper and garrigue. Full-bodied, rich and heady, this beauty is capable of drinking well for 5-6 more years. However, as with most of these wines, what's the point of waiting?" (Robert Parker, Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 92 points

$19.99/bottle or $191.90/12 pack case ($15.99/bottle) or just $15.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Chateau Saint-Roch Kerbuccio 2011

Chateau Saint-Roch Kerbuccio 2011

Check out this bad boy.

"The backside of this region is Corbieres, but this opaque purple-colored 2011 Kerbuccio would blow away just about any Corbieres. A wine of great intensity, it offers up copious floral, blackberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, scorched earth and wet rocks. Dense and full-bodied with tremendous richness and supple tannins, this beauty should drink well for 5-7 years, possibly longer." (Robert Parker, Wine Advocate)

$19.99/bottle or $191.90/12 pack case ($15.99/bottle) or just $15.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Casa Castillo Las Gravas 2009

Casa Castillo Las Gravas 2009

This is one to stock up on for autumn. It's a real stunner.

"This single vineyard 2009 Las Gravas is an amazing wine that must be tasted to be believed. Its intense dense purple color is accompanied by copious notes of kirsch, black raspberries, blueberries and underbrush intertwined with hints of truffles and graphite. It is a full-bodied, stunningly pure blend of 80% Monastrell, 10% Garnacha and 10% Syrah. The old vine Grenache component gives the wine a remarkable layered texture and plushness. Drink this beauty over the next 7-8+ years." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 94 points

$26.99/bottle or $259.10/12 pack case ($21.59/bottle) or just $21.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!
