One of the World's Truly Great Undiscovered Vinous Treasures
We have a very unusual and special wine to share with you. We believe today's wine is one of the world's truly great undiscovered vinous treasures.
The wine in question is a Coteaux du Layon which hails from the Loire Valley in France. Coteaux du Layon is situated in the Anjou district of the region, along the river Layon, which is a tributary to the Loire River. Coteaux du Layon are always made from Chenin Blanc, a grape we consider to be a major contender for Unsung Hero of the Wine World.
Domaine du Baumard Coteaux du Layon 2010
Domaine du Baumard is an ancient family-run estate of the highest quality. They produce wines in miniscule quantity with fairly hefty price tags. Don't worry though. Today's exceptional wine is a ridiculous bargain for its pedigree -- under $25/bottle before discount!
We think this is a perfect wine for autumn's cooler weather with its delicious quince and apple notes. It would make an excellent after dinner wine to sip on its own, or you could explore two directions in terms of food pairing. If you want to drink it with dessert, then look toward an apricot or other fruit souffle. If savory is more your speed, then an after dinner cheese course with salty blue cheese would be sublime!
A Stunning Sweetie for October
"One of the historic domaines of the Loire, this property has been in the Baumard family since 1634. Their basic Coteaux du Layon is sunny and glorious in 2010, packed with bright tangerine and quince flavors. Both sweet and fresh, it balances all of its fruit with pale chalk minerality." "Intense, stylish and pure, with a gorgeous beam of Jonagold apple, Cavaillon melon and quince flavors laced with extra hints of white peach and honeysuckle. A long quince echo shows on the succulent finish, which is deftly balanced by fine acidity. Best from 2014 through 2024. 100 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

"Certainly intensely sweet, but it is the acidity that adds much to this wine. It is still very young with its bright acidity, mango and pineapple fruits and a dry edge from honey and botrytis. It needs aging for at least five years and more." (Wine Enthusiast)

As you can imagine, very limited quantities are available in MA. We suggest purchasing a bottle now for the Thanksgiving table while it's still around. We might not be able to wait that long, but perhaps you can! Otherwise, this wine would make a very special gift for one of your wine-loving friends.
$24.99/bottle or $239.90/12 pack case ($19.99/bottle) or just $19.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.
