Oh, Oh, Oh. This Beauty Just Landed!
Today's white wine is "ideal for a hot summer's day." In fact, this beauty just landed last week and we're pretty excited. The packaging is nothing short of stunning.
First of all, it's from one of our all-time favorite winemakers, Jean-Marc Lafage.
Second, it's imported by Eric Solomon's European Cellars so those are two pretty great reasons to check out this wine.
Third, it has a very enthusiastic review in spite of the fact it literally just arrived in the state.
Fourth, it will be positively delicious to some of you.
Say what?!?
Well, some of you will LOVE this wine.
Others of you won't.
It all comes down to something we like to call the floral factor. Floral components are kind of like pyrazines (pyrazines cause the green smelling and tasting components in wine). Generally speaking, you either love floral components or hate them. Rarely do you find a neutral response.
Fans of Gewürztraminer, Torrontes, Roussanne, Viognier and Muscat derivatives will find this wine a revelation.
It has incredibly bright acidity, almost to the point of being prickly (we just LOVE this!!!).
The Viognier and Muscat in this blend pack it with a light floral punch and if we're honest it tastes just a bit like blitzed up honeydew melon. Great super chilled on a hot day? Absolutely.
We can't say this strongly enough -- some of you will be thrilled with this wine. However, we just couldn't see ourselves drinking it at home (we tried) so it's all up to your personal palate.
If floral's your thing this wine will have you doing cartwheels.
Without further delay:
Jean-Marc Lafage Miraflors Blanc 2015
"Another terrific white is the 2015 Vin de France Miraflors Blanc. A blend of close to equal parts Vermentino, Viognier, Muscat and Grenache Gris that was raised all in tank (with plenty of lees contact), it offers exotic aromas and flavors of mint, citrus peel and lemon to go with a medium-bodied, bright, fresh style on the palate that's ideal for a hot summer day.
I've raved time and time again about the quality - and value - coming from Domaine Lafage's Jean-Marc Lafage. A large estate that pulls from vines in the Agly Valley, the Aspres region, and vines around the estate and close the Mediterranean Sea, they've just completed work on a new, state of the art winery and cellar. I can only imagine the quality will continue to soar at this estate." (Wine Advocate)
