Four Value-Driven Reds From Spain
Today we have four value-driven reds from Spain. Each one is fruit-forward, delicious and absolutely perfect for a backyard barbeque.
Spain has some of the best inexpensive, delicious and surprisingly well rated wines in the world, yet few people are familiar with the grapes or the wines emerging from this exciting country. We'd like to change all that starting right now.
All of the red wines on offer today have excellent scores and reviews from major press. Each is less than $12/bottle every day, and less than $10/bottle after case discount. These wines are perfect to bust out for company because they're so easy on the wallet. They're perfect for burgers on the grill, sunsets on the beach, or late night sipping while looking at the stars.
Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil Honoro Vera Organic Monastrell 2016
"This fruity red offers black cherry, blackberry and plum pudding flavors, while vanilla and leafy notes add interest. Lively acidity and light tannins focus the plush texture." (Wine Spectator)
Wine Spectator: 88 points
Wine Spectator: Best Values
"There is also an organic version of the unoaked entry-level Monastrell, the 2016 Honoro Vera Organic. In Jumilla it is easy to farm organically; the only difficulty is to manage all the paperwork required for the certification. Even though they sell at the same price, this is always a tad deeper than the regular Honoro Vera. This shows more focused fruit and cleaner, more defined aromas, with varietal notes and good balance between ripeness and freshness. The palate is juicy and fruit driven with round tannins that provide a velvety texture. This is very good for its price. 240,000 bottles produced." (Wine Advocate)

Bodegas Juan Gil Honoro Vera Garnacha 2016
"Bright, brambly appeal on the nose with red currant and raspberry fruits. The palate has a plush, fleshy and saturated feel to it, with succulent tannins." (James Suckling)
James Suckling: 91 points
Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend 2015
"Brilliant ruby-red. Deep-pitched aromas of blackberry, cherry liqueur and licorice, plus a slowly building smoky nuance. Warm and broad on the palate, offering plush flavors of ripe cherry and dark berries. Nicely concentrated and broad-shouldered; the black currant note comes back on the round, gently tannic, smoke-tinged finish." (Vinous) A blend of 55% Monastrell, 30% Syrah, 15% Garnacha.
Vinous: 89 points
Honoro Vera Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
"Rich blackberry and blackcurrant fruits on the nose with a little blackberry leaf too. The palate is soft, smooth and very fleshy. Drink now." (James Suckling)
James Suckling: 89 points
These wines are all a value-driven $11.99/bottle every day. Purchase a solid case for just $9.59/bottle or really have some fun and mix and match all four wines in a case for just $9.59/bottle.
At less than $10/bottle these red wines represent great value as well as a whole lot of summer fun.
