Big Bang For the Buck Values

Today we have two really lovely wines from Germany for you.

Wait, don't stop reading!!!

When most people think of Germany Riesling springs quickly to mind, and for good reason. It's what they do best. People generally love or hate Riesling, yet most people don't know enough about it to make sense of it. If you're not familiar with their classification system called the Pradikat it can be pretty confusing.

Good news. We're not offering any Riesling today, so please forget about all that and don't do a runner before you check out these wines!

Today we're delving deep into a remarkable portfolio of value-driven wines from Villa Wolf, which was founded in 1756 in the Pfalz region of Germany. The J.L. Wolf estate (now called Villa Wolf) was a successful and highly regarded winery for more than two centuries.

In the latter years of the 20th century, world renowned winemaker Ernst Loosen (of the Dr. Loosen estate) took over the vineyards, launching a dramatic turnaround in the estate's quality and reputation. Many of Loosen's blockbuster wines have hefty price tags, yet he remains committed to producing high quality value wines from the Pfalz in Villa Wolf.

When we first tasted the Sauvignon Blanc we were both impressed with the wine's purity and bright acidity. This is a Sauvignon Blanc nearly everyone will love. It's clean, crisp, elegant and ready for quaffing.

Villa Wolf Sauvignon Blanc 2017 (Pfalz, Germany)

Villa Wolf Sauvignon Blanc 2017

"The Villa Wolf Sauvignon Blanc is produced from fruit that has reached optimum ripeness, but is not over ripe. And only clean, healthy fruit (no botrytis) is allowed. The sandy loam soils of the Pfalz region produces fruit with excellent purity and varietal expression, resulting in wines that are fresh and juicy, with aromatic character and a crisp backbone of acidity." (Winemaker Notes)

$14.99/bottle or $11.99/bottle in a solid or mixed case of wine.

Villa Wolf's 2018 rose just arrived in the store and we couldn't be more thrilled. It's the only rose we're stocking from Germany this year. It's made from Pinot Noir, but it doesn't have the weight and heaviness you would expect from California or Oregon. This wine is fresh and pretty with lively acidity. It stopped us in our tracks when we first tried it. What an exceptional value at this price point!

Villa Wolf Rose 2018 (Pfalz, Germany)

Villa Wolf Rose 2018

"The Pfalz is a very warm and sunny region, often called the "Tuscany of Germany," so all of the Pinot varieties do well here. The Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rosé is a true rosé, made with a brief maceration before pressing to extract color. It is light and refreshing, with deliciously bright berry and fruit flavors and a clean, zippy finish. It's perfect for holiday meals, especially when ham is involved." (Winemaker's Notes)

$13.99/bottle or $11.19/bottle in a solid or mixed case of wine.

Press reply to reserve your wine or call the store. We'll also be featuring these wines at an in-store wine tasting this Saturday from 1-3 pm.

P.S.

Please be on the lookout for an email next week about our upcoming wine tasting event. "On the Road From California to Oregon" wine tasting seminar will be conducted by a Master of Wine who is flying in from New York just for the event.

There are currently only 382 Masters of Wine in the world, living in 30 different countries across five continents. It's basically like a wine Ph.D. on steroids. Seriously, this is BIG stuff. There are only 52 in the United States and as far as we know only two in New England (we studied directly under both of them at Boston University).

We'll be featuring a gorgeous tasting menu to accompany the wines at the Bistro on Main restaurant in Chatham.

Our last wine tasting event sold out in less than 8 hours so if you're keen to attend please respond promptly when you receive our invitation. This is going to be a remarkable event with absolutely extraordinary wines.

P.P.S.

We'll be in the store this Saturday from 1-3 pouring some of our favorite wines, including the two Villa Wolf in this email. Stop by and say hello!
