A Wine Spectator Top 100 Arrives
Typically when a wine is awarded a "Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of the Year" the deal is sealed and the wine becomes virtually impossible to obtain. Within minutes of the announcement these newfound celebrity wines go viral as buyers across the nation swoop in to purchase any and everything as quickly as possible. There's an industry name for this, but we're far too polite to use it in public. Any guesses though? :o)
Today's story is a little different. The ingenious fine wine buyer at one of our favorite wholesalers arranged for a final second container to be shipped a few months after the big Wine Spectator announcement in order to reward their best clients. It just arrived. How cool is that?!? We're thrilled to be one of the few hand-selected wine merchants in the state to make the grade.
So, let's begin the fun. We now have in our possession a Wine Spectator Top 100 Wine of the Year, which also happens to be Italian, and the color red, and when all is said and done sells for less than $13 after discount. Whoah. Stop the presses.
This wine somehow made the Top 100 list along with expensive Barolos, ethereal Brunellos, and elite Napa Valley Cabs.
So, whether or not you follow Wine Spectator, or agree with their opinions, this is a wine you may want to notice. We have two small shipments arriving and the first one is here on the floor right now. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Vecchia Cantina Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2009
"This lush, black cherry- and blackberry-flavored red also shows herb and spice notes. A base of gripping tannins provides support as this cruises to the long finish. Shows a touch of heat in the end. Best from 2014 through 2025. 12,500 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: Top 100 Wines of the Year, Rank #49
$15.99/bottle or $153.50/12 pack case ($12.79) or just $12.79/bottle in a mixed case of wine. Quite a nice bargain for a celebrity wine.
P.S.
Rhone fans, read this now.
Next week we're going to publicly offer one of THE most delicious wines from the Southern Rhone we've tasted in a long time. It's so good we literally teetered on the fence with the idea of taking the entire lot home for ourselves. Many of you know this is a cardinal rule we never break, but this wine is so seductive it nearly pushed us to the very edge of our limits.
We currently have a few cases remaining of the jaw-dropping, silky and sinfully luscious 2009 Lirac from Domaine du Joncier in stock now (barely). That's it for the 2009 vintage in MA. We literally took every case in the state. Our email announcement will be distributed next week if there's any wine left by next Thursday, but we seriously doubt it. Trust us on this one. You should purchase (or reserve) this wine right now.
Here's a sneak preview of Robert Parker's review which is ONLY being sent out as a P.S. to our savvy wine club members. Nobody else will stand a chance at this amazing wine.
"This 2009 Lirac overdelivers in every sense of the word. A blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan, it reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with sweet black raspberry and black cherry fruit notes intermixed with notions of spring flowers and licorice. Full-bodied and concentrated, it should drink well for 5-6 years. This cuvee comes close in quality to such Lirac reference point wines as Domaine de la Mordoree's Reine des Bois." (Wine Advocate)

$24.99/bottle or $239.90/12 pack case ($19.99/bottle) or just $19.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine. Email, call or stop by to reserve in advance, but don't be angry with us if this wine disappears quickly. We're already feeling separation anxiety. What a beauty. Sigh.
