A Very Exciting Discovery Every Serious Italian Wine Drinker Should Explore

If you're fans of the Italian red wine Barbera, then you should check out the recently established Nizza DOCG, which was originally a separate subzone of Barbera. This new appellation was established in 2014 and the wines are just now starting to hit the American marketplace.

Nizza is being bandied about as the new "Grand Cru" of Barbera and for good reason.

For now, let's start with the basics. The Nizza DOCG is required to be 100 percent Barbera with a minimum aging requirement of 18 months, six of which must be in wood. There are only 45 producers in the delimited geographic area and as of right now it appears as if only one is being imported into Massachusetts.

According to the magazine Wine Spectator, "Nizza may become for Barbera what Dogliani, slightly larger in area, is for Dolcetto: A focus on a single grape, planted in the best sites to elevate quality."

Today we're offering Garesio Nizza 2016, a very exciting discovery every serious Italian wine drinker should explore.

Garesio Nizza (DOCG) 2016 Garesio Nizza (DOCG) 2016

"Underscored by flashy new oak, this red delivers blackberry, black cherry, violet, graphite and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Offers a solid core, but needs time for all the facets to show. Delivers terrific balance and length. Drink now through 2027. 7,000 cases made, 50 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 93 points

This luscious red wine has an intense, complex bouquet with aromas of red berries and hints of freshly picked strawberries and cherries. Perhaps the most striking feature of this wine is its velvety, harmonious texture, balanced with heady fruit flavors and underlying acidity.

Drink this wine with pasta dishes accompanied with hearty meat sauces, or braised red meat if the mood strikes you. You could even pair it with blue cheese with striking results.

$35.99/bottle or just $172.75/6 pack case ($28.79/bottle). There isn't much of this wine to go around, so if you love Italian red wine you'd do well to place your order today.

Please press reply to reserve your wine, or stop by and scoop up as many bottles as possible.
