A Favorite Summer White Wine

Today's offering is one of our favorite summer white wines of 2018. It's a Pouilly-Fuissé which is sure to please just about any white wine drinker in your home.

Let's start with the facts. Pouilly-Fuissé is often confused with Pouilly-Fumé, and why not? They both sound a lot alike, they're both white and they're both from France. So, what's the deal?

Pouilly-Fuissé is a white wine appellation in the Mâconnais subregion of Burgundy in France and it's always made from 100% Chardonnay. Pouilly-Fumé, on the other hand, is from the Loire Valley in France and it's made from Sauvignon Blanc. In other words, they couldn't be more different.

Now that this classic wine test question has been sorted out, let's find out why today's wine is so wonderful (and, yes, please use this question on your friends to test their wine IQ!).

First of all, the price. White Burgundy from any appellation has become crazy expensive and it's in very short supply this season. It's been more of a challenge than ever to fill the shelves because of this double whammy. Today's offering sells for less than $20/bottle after case discount and we feel the price, combined with its exceptional quality, makes it a fantastic bargain.

Second, we rarely choose to drink Chardonnay at home, but this wine is so delicious it has charmed its way into our refrigerator on a regular basis. Sneaky little Chardonnay!

Henry Fessy Sous La Roche Pouilly-Fuissé 2015

Good To Know Fun Fact: Under the "Solutre" rock or "Sous La Roche" is considered to produce the best Pouilly-Fuissé of the appellation.

This 100% Chardonnay reveals a beautiful pale yellow color. The nose reveals notes of pear and fresh almond. On the palate, this wine is well-balanced with aromas of lemon and white flowers and a persistent finish.
