New Releases

Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 2009 (Burgundy, France)

For those wine enthusiasts who read trade journals, you may have noticed Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 2009 graces the cover of the current issue of Wine Spectator magazine. It's discussed in an article entitled “The Allure of Burgundy: The Great 2009 Vintage.”

We recently served an older bottle of Faiveley Mercurey 2006 with pan-seared salmon and it was ridiculously delicious. We recommend drinking some now and putting some away for a while.

We're quite pleased this cover girl is now in stock. We really like this wine!

"Dark and lush, this black cherry- and blackberry-laced red is silky and succulent. Well-balanced and moderately long, if not very complex. Best from 2013 through 2020. 1,000 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

$24.99/bottle or $239.90/12 pack case ($19.99/bottle) or just $19.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Abbazia di Novacella Kerner 2011 (Trentino/Alto Adige, Italy)

Abbazia di Novacella is Italy's northernmost winery, specializing in cool-climate white wines. The Abbey was founded way back in 1142 by an Augustinian order of monks. The head monk is still in charge of the winery today!

You won't see the unusual grape variety Kerner around much. It's a hybrid grape produced by a crossing of Trollinger (a red grape variety) and Riesling. It's delicious. Think of it as a Riesling with a bit more body. It possesses a delicate bouquet of peach and nutmeg. The palate is cooling and filled with stone fruit and minerals. It's very well textured, leaving a long and precise finish.

Abbazia di Novacella produces exceptionally elegant wines, and the Kerner is a perennial favorite with the critics. In fact, Abbazia di Novacella even won Gambero Rosso's prestigious Winemaker of the Year in 2009! That's like winning Best Director at the Oscars.

$21.99/bottle or $211.10/12 pack case ($17.59/bottle) or just $17.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Colosi Nerello Mascalese 2009 (Sicily, Italy)

"A bright, stainless steel fermented red, this is from vineyards in Sambuca di Sicilia. It presents Nerello Mascalese in an approachable, floral mode, a lean wine with tart cherry and pomegranate scents. Fresh, lovely and ready to pour with grilled quail." (Wine & Spirits Magazine)

Wine & Spirits Magazine: 90 points, Best Buy

$16.99/bottle or $163.10/12 pack case ($13.59/bottle) or just $13.59/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Michel Torino Don David Malbec 2010 (Salta, Argentina)

Sometimes a Malbec does the job right. Barbeque? Check. Pan-seared steak? Check. Hamburgers? Check.

"Juicy, displaying layers of fresh crushed raspberry, blackberry and spice notes. Medium-grained tannins are well-integrated and frame the minerally finish." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 87 points

"Blackberry, menthol and violet on the nose. Juicy, saline and nicely concentrated, with a chewy quality to the flavors of dark berries and chocolate. Nicely tactile wine with a firmly tannic, persistent finish. Good value." (International Wine Cellar)

International Wine Cellar: 89 points

$19.99/bottle or $95.95/6 pack case ($15.99) or just $15.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.
