We were pretty excited to receive the new vintage of Michel Gassier's Cercius Blanc last week. Michel is one of the hottest winemakers in all of France right now and his brand new release has bonkers press. Check this out:

On the southern edge of the Rhone Valley near the ancient city of Nimes the legendary mistral winds of Provence sweep over the vines and out to the Mediterranean Sea. The Latin name for these north-northwest winds is CERCIUS – the defining feature and raison d'etre for partners Michel Gassier, Philippe Cambie and Eric Solomon to launch this project. The brisk cross winds protect the freshness of the grapes which is preserved during vinification in concrete tanks.

"Starting off the Michel Gassier releases, and a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Sauvignon that was aged all in concrete, with plenty of lees contact, the 2012 Cercius Blanc delivers a knockout bouquet of peach, tropical, and pit fruits to go with a core of edgy minerality. Containing a full 40% of declassified Nostre Pais, it delivers an absurd amount of quality for a wine that sells at this price. Full-bodied, rich and gorgeously textured, yet also brilliantly pure and precise, it should be purchased by the case load and consumed over the coming 3-5 years.

This unusual combination of grapes -- Grenache Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc -- delivers more than the sum of its parts would indicate. The Grenache Blanc creates a roundness and expansiveness, while the Sauvignon Blanc delivers fresh acidity and zestiness. This is a great blend for warmer weather (if we ever have some). Lovely! Gotta get some of this!!!
