New Gems from the Outstanding 2009 Vintage in France (+ 1)
M Chapoutier La Ciboise 2009 (Luberon, Southern Rhône)
M Chapoutier La Ciboise 2009 (Luberon, Southern Rhône)
Michel Chapoutier is one of the most highly regarded winemakers in France. La Ciboise is a brand new project of his from the Luberon region of the Southern Rhône. If you love lusty Rhône blends, this is a great choice from a relatively obscure region in this very famous valley.
"Silky and round, with dark plum, cherry and spice notes laced with judicious toast on the finish. Fresh and balanced. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now. 5,000 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)
Wine Spectator: 87 points
"The 2009 La Ciboise red displays straightforward, medium-bodied black cherry fruit intermixed with garrigue, licorice, and earth. It is an attractive wine that, like the Marius, could be served slightly chilled." (Wine Advocate)

Domaine Lafage Cuvée Nicolas 2009 (Languedoc-Roussillon)
Domaine Lafage Cuvée Nicolas 2009 (Languedoc-Roussillon)
Attention Grenache fans. The new vintage of this perennial customer favorite arrived a few weeks ago. It's a real knockout for those who enjoy smooth, silky, round and unctuous reds.
"The Lafage 2009 Cuvee Nicolas - also bottled as "Cote Grenache"; sourced principally from Les Aspres; cold-soaked, and vinified in upright demi-muids - is plush and glycerin-rich yet neither heavy nor warm. Nutty underlying richness and a sounding board of wet stone compliment and set-off ripe dark berry fruit that really envelops the palate. This irresistible essence of Grenache ought to merit service for at least 3-4 years." (Wine Advocate)

Domaine Lafage Novellum Chardonnay 2010
Domaine Lafage Novellum Chardonnay 2010
This is your +1. The new vintage of Novellum has finally arrived and it's back in stock for you fans, of which there are many. Lafage's unoaked Chardonnay is aged on the lees of Viognier, which makes for a very interesting twist. This wine is always a favorite with the critics.
"Nearly over-ripe apple and musk melon on the nose and a generously juicy, succulently sappy, lees-enriched, creamy yet somehow at the same time tart-edged palate are tinged with brown spices and hazelnut. The combination here of creaminess with refreshment and levity illustrates a virtue more usually associated with Pinot Blanc." (Wine Advocate)

Domaine La Garrigue Vacqueyras 2009 (Southern Rhône)
Domaine La Garrigue Vacqueyras 2009 (Southern Rhône)
Vacqueyras is an important appellation in the Southern Rhône valley, where it can often be overshadowed by its more famous neighbor Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is a relatively serious wine brimming with structure and depth provided by the Syrah and Mourvedre grapes. As a result, a little aging certainly wouldn't hurt with this wine.
"The 2009 Vacqueyras (70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) exhibits a dark plum/ruby color, serious density and concentration and classic Provencal aromatic and flavor profiles of garrigue, licorice, kirsch, blacker fruits and hints of earth and truffles. Domaine La Garrigue’s Vacqueyras have a very impressive track record for aging up to 10 years, so I don’t think there will be any problem as they are loaded with density and extract and have good serious structure without being astringent or overbearing." Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-Cote de Beaune 2009 (Burgundy)
Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-Côtes de Beaune 2009 (Burgundy)
We've been anxiously waiting for the much heralded 2009 Burgundies to arrive. The overall vintage was rated 95 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. When looking for Burgundies we're inspired to strive for high quality without an outrageously high price tag. Consequently we hunt for producers who are somewhat off the radar. It's not an easy task, but we found a red Burgundy we think is fantastic for less than $50. Score!
Tollot-Beaut is consistently noted as one of the best producers in Burgundy. The medium to dark ruby-colored Chorey-Cotes de Beaune is sold in every market except the United States as Chorey-Les-Beaune. It is medium to dark ruby-colored and has a sweet, lush, red fruit-scented nose. It offers a good depth of plush cherry fruit, a satiny texture, and a flavorful, structured character.

$44.99/bottle or $431.90/12 pack case ($35.99/bottle) or just $35.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition 2009 (Southern Rhône)
Luscious alert! This delicious Châteauneuf is a showcase for the quality of the 2009 vintage in the Southern Rhône. Domaine Giraud produces small quantities of artisanal wines which are farmed organically (although this isn't marketed).
Reveals deep kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with raspberries, smoked herbs, roasted meats and hoisin sauce. Complex, with great fruit, a voluptuous mouthfeel, low acidity and sweet tannin, it can be consumed over the next 10-15 years.
This morsellated estate, which has nearly 50 acres of vines (all organically farmed) spread throughout the appellation, has been resurrected and reinvigorated by Francois and Marie Giraud. Philippe Cambie, the consulting oenologist, has helped make this one of the up-and-coming super-stars of the appellation.” (Wine Advocate)

Leslie and Philippe Cambie, Consulting Oenologist

"Dense but stylish, with a silky texture to the cassis, macerated cherry and linzer torte flavors, followed by ample spice, pepper, warm ganache and black tea notes filling in the finish. Very fresh acidity carries it all deftly. Best from 2012 through 2023. 345 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)
