Drinks Like A Top Level Côte-Rôtie for Under $20!

Bodegas Jiménez-Landi 2008 (Mentrida, Spain)

Tending the Vineyards at Jiménez-Landi

José Jiménez-Landi and Daniel Jiménez-Landi were raised among concrete tanks and old press machines. At the age of 27 they both decided to dedicate their lives exclusively to wine, and in 2004 they restored the old winery introducing new technologies and machinery with the single target of producing maximum possible quality.

Their small estate is located in Méntrida in an old typical Toledana house where the oldest part, the cave, dates to the 16th century and was used by their ancestors to store wine in clay vats.

Jiménez-Landi Sotorrondero 2008

Jiménez-Landi Sotorrondero 2008

The 2008 Sotorrondero is absolutely delicious. As many of you already know, top level Côte-Rôtie from the Northern Rhône Valley in France usually has an entry level price of approximately $50-75/bottle. The Jiménez-Landi Sotorrondero is very similar in profile, but sells for less than $20/bottle. And it has a stunning rating from the Wine Advocate.

This is a rather unusual find. Extraordinary in fact.

And since many of you are now asking about future availability we need to disclose we are in possession of only several cases of this wine. Even this small amount required sign-off from the top management at the wholesaler. You'll see why in a minute.

"This hedonist’s delight is an incredible value." (Wine Advocate)

All the details add up. Hand picked grapes. Tiny production. Grapes crushed by foot rather than machine. Only natural yeasts with no chemical products.

Artisanal wine at its finest.

“Daniel Jiménez-Landi is one of Spain’s new star vignerons.” (Jay Miller, Wine Advocate)

It's so easy to gush about this wine. It's elegant, well balanced, and has loads of finesse. There is a depth and freshness, along with an underlying minerality which helps it soar.

“The entry level 2008 Sotorrondero is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Garnacha aged for 10 months in 300 and 500-liter French oak. Purple-colored with an ethereal, sexy perfume of smoke, black raspberry, blueberry, bacon, and incense reminiscent of top-level Cote-Rotie, on the palate it is opulent, velvety-textured, and already complex.

It has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years and will drink well for a decade. This hedonist’s delight is an incredible value. Drink now through 2020.” (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 93 points

$19.99/bottle or just $15.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine. A 93 point Wine Advocate wine for under $16 is a distinctly rare find. Stock up while it lasts. This one's a real treat.

P.S.

Due to the wedding of one of our staff (Collin) this afternoon there will be no wine tasting. However, we'd love for you to join us for Saturday's wine tasting from 3-6 pm.

P.P.S.

For all you eager wine enthusiasts, an update on Oremus Dry Furmint. It is now scheduled to arrive in MA at the end of this month. Sadly, the scallops will just have to wait a wee bit longer.
