Presenting the Wine Spectator superstars of 2011
Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2007
"This ripe, juicy red is full of sanguine notes, along with black cherry and blackberry flavors. The tannins are well-coated by fleshy fruit and it lingers with a long, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2012 through 2022. 12,000 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko Santorini 2010
"Juicy and rich, with concentrated pear, apple and white fruit flavors that are backed up by plenty of fresh acidity. The intense finish features mineral notes, joined by sea salt and white pepper. Should turn creamy with time in the cellar. 7,000 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: Top 100 Wines of the Year, Rank #83
"Sigalas sets the bar high for Assyrtiko as usual. This 2010 is a balance of rounded citrus, crisp sea salt and sparkling minerality. Delicious with grilled fish, fruit or alone on a hot day, this is an elegant gem of a white that represents some of the best of Greek wine offered today." (Wine Enthusiast)

The 2010 Santorini is Assyrtiko, of course, and it is a big, burly one. Sigalas, on the back label, boldly recommends cellaring this for two years before consumption, not exactly typical for Greek whites. His wines certainly show very steely when young and age better than most, so take his recommendation to heart. After decanting this, the wine showed a lot better, integrating its parts, showing fine fruit and an unusually ripe fruit flavor nuance that the 2009 did not have. It seemed quite delicious at times, but like many Santorinis it has an underlying hard edge to it in its youth.
Sigalas is one of Greece's finest white wine producers - in fact, a short list candidate for the best. I would like to take credit for that conclusion, but there is not much dissent here. This producer is universally acclaimed for his skill with Assyrtiko of all types - dry, barrel fermented and sweet - and I can only climb on the bandwagon. Sigalas is simply a master with this grape.”

Terredora di Paolo Greco di Tufo 2009
A beauty, focused and fresh, with lively fresh-cut honeydew melon and citrus backed by hints of hot stone and spring herbs on the long, cream-tinged finish.” (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: Top 100 Wines of the Year, Rank #87
"The 2009 Greco di Tufo is a vivid, multi-dimensional wine laced with white peaches, minerals, flowers and mint, all of which come together in a beautifully nuanced style. The warmth of the vintage radiates through to the long, creamy finish. These new releases from Terredora are among the most impressive I tasted. From top to bottom these are serious wines readers will not want to miss." (Wine Advocate)

Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc 2010
You may notice Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was awarded rank #28 on this year's Top 100 list. While the vintage has chanted to 2010, this wine is ALWAYS a superstar and we highly recommend it.
This is an iconic Sauvignon Blanc. The Russian River Valley makes some of the state’s greatest Sauvignon Blancs, in the right hands, and when those hands are Merry Edwards’, you can be sure of what you’re getting. The wine is dry and crisp in mouthwatering acidity, with citrus and lemongrass flavors that have richer tones of tropical fruits. It feels vibrant, elegant and complex in the mouth, a wine to savor over multiple glasses.
$39.99/bottle or $383.90/12 pack case ($31.99/bottle) or just $31.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.
