Tell your friends it's twice the price.
One fine day a few weeks ago an importer sat in our office, showing us wines from her Italian portfolio. She pulled a wine from her bag with a boring label and told us its humble price. Based on these two factors we honestly didn't expect very much.
We were so very wrong.
Then we had a clever idea. We were invited to a dinner party in Yarmouth the other night. In addition to some wine samples we brought to evaluate, we snuck in two bottles of Campostella Villa Vallemaggiore to have with dinner. We didn't say a word about it, other than it was a Tuscan blend.
All the wine-savvy guests adored the Campostella, which was served with homemade pappardelle and a delicious ragu made with pancetta and prosciutto. Just for fun, we went around the table and asked everyone how much they would be willing to pay for the wine since they enjoyed it so much.
A few numbers were tossed out. We heard $25. Then $32. We asked them if they would be happy with the wine at that price and they said yes, absolutely. Definitely.
Then we revealed the real price (Cheshire cat grin).
“That's impossible.”
“There is no way that wine costs that little.”
Once the shock wore off, one of the hosts suggested we raise the price because nobody would believe the wine was that good at that price! We agreed in theory, but in our opinion only a naughty wine merchant would do that. Our pricing is ALWAYS fair and reliable.
So there you have it. Are you sitting down?

Today's wine is under $8/bottle before discount.

Tell your friends it's twice the price if you want to save face, but know in your heart you only paid $6.39/bottle in a mixed or solid case of wine.
Trust us on this one.
We decided to do another test, just for more fun (we wine merchants have to amuse ourselves somehow). Only this time we gave a bottle of this wine to a tried-and-true white wine lover who rarely ever drinks red wine by preference. We honestly didn't know what to expect. This is a very critical client who, if pressed, will only drink very expensive red wine on rare occasions.
She wrote us an unsolicited email after opening the wine (which, by the way, we encourage you to do; we love the feedback!).
“I could almost get addicted to red wine if they all tasted that way.”
We never did tell her the price!
Today's wine is a quaffer. Hands down. It's easy-drinking, enjoyable, and very tasty. After a long day at work, a glass of this wine would be most welcome. Even by us. Sometimes you just need a wine that's effortless and comforting.
Campostella begs for another glass to be poured.
Campostella Villa Vallemaggiore Maremma Toscana 2009 (IGT)
This off-the-radar delightful and affordable Italian red is 85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It's soft and silky and oh-so-good, with lovely blackberries, black currant and plum flavors along with gentle clove and black pepper spice notes. Hints of licorice and cherry emerge in the glass as it opens up.

This is a great wine for casual dining, parties, or the ever-present summer company. After opening a bottle of Campostella your guests will definitely think you know a thing or two about wine!

Everyone loves it. And you can keep the price to yourself if you prefer.

We won't tell.

Yours in value once again,
