So Long 2011; Hello 2012 Super Sale
Some thoughts at the end of 2011:
First and foremost, we wish to thank all of our wine club members who keep us challenged and extremely motivated to do our best.
2011 was a year filled with many exciting new wine discoveries.
Many of you were thrilled with the arrival of Oremus Furmint, an usual dry white Tokay from Hungary, which pairs perfectly with scallops.
One of the standout wines of 2011 was undeniably the Saint Eugenie Le Clos from the Corbieres region of Southern France. We sold tons of it until the vintage ran out. We'll be evaluating the new vintage in just a few weeks. If it meets our standards, the wine should return to our shelves in mid-January.

To celebrate the arrival of 2012, we're offering a special unpublished super sale of 12 wines.

Perrier-Jouet Champagne Brut 2002
This is a truly lovely Champagne. It's normally on the pricey side, but today we're offering you the chance to save over $37/bottle on this elegant sparkler (up through New Year's Eve). A splurge, no doubt, but a delicious surprise for that special someone!
"Hints of burnt sugar and toffee accent this bright Champagne, along with notes of apple pie, bread dough, cream and candied lemon peel. There's a fine balance between the wine's finesse and its lively character, with a long, smoke-tinged finish. Drink now through 2024. 2,000 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

“With its distinctive flower bottle, this is an immediately recognizable Champagne, both in its looks and its distinctive Perrier-Jouët elegance. Lively white fruits play with acidity and a tangy backbone of apple skins.” (Wine Enthusiast)

Babot Brut Nature Cava NV
Babot Brut Nature Cava NV
An outstanding value in sparkling wine.”
For those of you who want a more approachable sparkler, we have a limited offering for under $12. Cava is the Spanish version of Champagne, and this one has zero added sugar (or dosage), hence the Brut Nature classification. It's bone dry, light, and refreshing.
"The NV Babot Cava Brut Nature is a custom cuvee made for importer Eric Solomon and Barcelona wine merchant Quim Vila. White fruits, brioche, mineral, and floral notes lead to a vinous, surprisingly sophisticated, dry Cava with excellent concentration and length. It is an outstanding value in sparkling wine for drinking over the next 1-2 years." (Wine Advocate)

Marziano Abbona Dogliani Dolcetto Papa Celso 2008
Marziano Abbona Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba 2009
This is a fabulous effort from Abbona.”
"The 2008 Dogliani Papa Celso comes across as dark, brooding and powerful, all qualities that are typical of Dolcetto from Dogliani. The Papa Celso is a bit taut in this vintage, but it nevertheless delivers tons of quality for the money. Blackberries, violets, tar and smoke sit on a mineral-infused frame of notable length. This is a fabulous effort from Abbona. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016." (Wine Advocate)

Marziano Abbona Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba 2009
"The 2009 Barbera Rinaldi is a big, powerful wine. Tar, smoke, licorice and dark fruit are some of the notes that wrap around the juicy, expressive finish. This is a pretty wine despite some occasional rustic leanings." (Wine Advocate)

Antonio Caggiano Taurasi 2003
Antonio Caggiano Taurasi 2003
"The 2003 Taurasi Macchia dei Goti is another gorgeous wine from Antonio Caggiano. It reveals awesome richness and opulence in its generous dark fruit. The tannins are massive and the new oak still needs to settle down, but this will be a terrific bottle in another few years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2023." (Wine Advocate)

Yalumba Unwooded Chardonnay 2010
Yalumba Unwooded Chardonnay 2010
"High-pitched aromas of green apple and quince, with a deeper nectarine quality in the background. Juicy, palate-coating orchard fruit flavors are pleasantly straightforward and expand in the mid-palate, picking up a touch of peach nectar. A kick of lemon pith adds focus and bite to the finish. Lots of fruit here." (International Wine Cellar)

I Greppi Greppicante 2006
"Shows very pretty aromas of fresh herbs, currant and raspberry. Full-bodied palate, with a very fine tannin structure and a long, caressing finish. Very solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2011. 2,830 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

Terredora Coda di Volpe 2009
Terredora Coda di Volpe 2009
"The 2009 Coda di Volpe reveals layers of subtle, mineral-infused fruit in a medium-bodied style that nevertheless capture the generosity of the vintage. Subtle notes of ash and earthiness inform the long finish. These new releases from Terredora are among the most impressive I tasted. From top to bottom these are serious wines readers will not want to miss." (Wine Advocate)

Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2005
"This is one of the standouts. The wine possesses remarkable clarity and precision in a medium-bodied, focused style. Suggestions of amarena cherries, menthol, spices and minerals emerge with air, adding further complexity. This is one of the more accessible Amarones in its medium-bodied, lithe structure, but the overall balance here is beyond question. This is a wonderful effort from Speri. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020." (Wine Advocate)

Pesquie Quintessence 2009
"This blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, aged in barrels for 12 months (40% new and 60% two years old) and bottled unfined and unfiltered, has a dense purple color and deep licorice, graphite, black currant and black cherry notes with hints of earth and spice as well as some pepper and meat juice in a dense, medium to full-bodied, slightly more tannic style than the 2010 Terrasses." E. Guigal Brune et Blonde Cote Rotie 2005

E. Guigal Brune et Blonde Cote Rotie 2005

"This is dense, with the grip of the vintage, but also admirable polish, which allows the lush raspberry, blackberry and spice notes to glide over the cocoa and mineral underpinning, followed by a long, inviting finish." (Wine Spectator) "The fullest-bodied, most complete and deepest of this quartet. Its dark garnet color is followed by a big, sweet nose of bacon fat, cassis, jammy cherries, and peppery herbs. Full-bodied and lush." (Wine Advocate)
