With a hurricane potentially hitting our shores, we set about finding a few wines we would want to stock up on in case we were stuck in the house for a few days. It wasn't difficult to find some beauties. Hurricane or not, these bottles are worth stocking up on while they last!
Same Grapes, Different Proportions
We know a lot of people in our wine club really love to explore wine with a little guidance from us. So we have a really fun “assignment” for you. Invite some friends over and sample our three wines today side by side. All are classic blends from Southern France using identical grapes.
While the L'Hortus is mostly Syrah with less Grenache (and a tiny amount of Mourvedre), the Vindemio is mostly Grenache with less Syrah. The rosé has exactly the same proportion of grapes as Vidnemio.
All charming and downright irrestible.
L'Hortus Pic Saint-Loup Bergerie Classique 2007
Arrived in the store only yesterday! This shipment was a special favor from someone very high up at the wholesaler. He gave us every case in the warehouse at a special price which we are (of course, as always) passing onto you.
We think you'll be very impressed with this 90 point wine for under $14.00/bottle!!! It has bright fruit with lovely raspberry flavors. It's lighter than a lot of reds from this region of France and it has a little bit of Mourvedre for structure and depth which consequently makes it an excellent food wine.
A roasted chicken with herbs and garlic would be nice. Or rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic seared on the grill. Or even salmon to tell the truth.
"The L’Hortus red 2007 Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Bergerie Classique is – as usual for this cuvee – around 2:1 tank vinified Syrah-Grenache, with roughly 10% barrel-aged Mourvedre. Beautifully scented with ripe black fruits, marjoram, and rosemary, this offers an invigorating sense of attack and a refreshing palate of tart fresh black raspberry and cassis, underlain by grilled meats. There is a lovely, muscular leanness here, and this should perform admirably at table for several years." (Wine Advocate)

“A Super Bargain for Serious Wine Consumers”
Vindemio Regain 2008
And now for our other delicious red. This wine reverses the proportions of the L'Hortus. It's an ideal alternative for you fans of classic Southern Rhône blends. A little decadent, with curves in all the right places, bursting with fruit.
Luscious, smooth, velvety, dark. A quaffer indeed.
“A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. It offers a deep ruby/purple color along with lots of dusty, loamy soil notes intermixed with notions of pepper, black cherries, spice, and flowers. Pure and medium-bodied with some light tannins to be resolved, it is a gutsy, delicious red to enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
Formerly known as Domaine Murmurium (an estate that garnered favorable reviews from this publication a decade ago), this property was purchased by Murmurium’s winemaker and a group of friends after the estate collapsed economically. Resurrected as Domaine Vindemio, the current owners are fashioning some super bargains meant for serious wine consumers.” (Wine Advocate)

This special case savings is only valid through this Sunday.
Chateau du Roet Cotes du Provence Rosé 2010
And now we have a rosé which is taking the store by storm. We sold out of this wine quickly, but the distributor had more cases shipped from France especially for us.
We believe this is one of the best rosés we have ever tasted for its humble price.
We can't stop drinking it ourselves at home. This is a serious delight.
This pink blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah is extremely refreshing with full fruity flavors and good length, and it's just the wine to wash down seafood, salads and grilled fish.
"Fresh tangerine and nectarine on the nose, along with subtle floral and spice notes and a hint of anise. Plump and expansive, offering juicy, nicely concentrated citrus and red berry flavors. Finishes with a tangerine note and a pleasant, food-friendly bitterness." (International Wine Cellar)
