The greatest vintage EVER on record.

No fooling around this time. Let's just get right down to it.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate publishes a vintage chart with overall scores as a general indication of the quality of each vintage.

The 2010 vintage in the Languedoc-Roussillon was just awarded an overall score of 95 points!!!

Whoah, time to sit down.

To put things in perspective, the 2009 vintage only received 89 points. Wake up those ears!

2010 is the GREATEST vintage EVER on record for this region.

The very thought makes us dizzy. So, here's our advice. Your wine cellar/closet/shelf should be absolutely BULGING with wines from this stunning vintage. At least, the proper wines. That's where your favorite wine merchant enters, stage right.

Fun fact. Last autumn, we offered you a brilliant wine called Château Puech Haut Prestige from the Languedoc-Roussillon which received 91 points for the 2009 vintage. An impressive score for a great wine from an average vintage.

Most people don't know this, but Robert Parker is scheduled to review the wines from its importer, Eric Solomon's European Cellars, next month.

After Puech Haut was awarded a high score in a less than stellar year, imagine what will happen when Robert Parker reviews the wine from the greatest vintage on record! Having personally tasted the wine with its creator, we can honestly tell you.

We predict an OVERWHELMING score.

Good news. Before all that happens. Puech Haut Prestige 2010 is available now -- before the crazy press creates a tsunami of desire which will likely wipe this wine out nationally.

When our special shipment arrived on Friday we acted like a five-year old on Christmas morning. Who could resist? We tore into the box and opened a bottle right then and there (after which, we took advantage of the job perk and reserved some for ourselves, shhhhhh).

Always ones to share our toys, we tasted a few lucky customers on this wine who just happened to be shopping in the store. The entire stack of wine sold out. ALL OF IT. On the spot. Thankfully we're fast on our feet and we reloaded fast and hard. This kind of intense work sometimes leaves us scrambling, but we love it. In fact, we live for it.

We always like to be straightforward about availability. We should be covered on this wine, at least for a while. We're 4 times lucky to have special VIP relationships on every level with Puech Haut – the winemaker, the consulting oenologist, the importer, AND the wholesaler. A quadruple whammy. It's nice to see all those trips to Boston, New York and abroad have actually paid off!

Château Puech Haut has been on the critic's radar for quite some time, which makes sense since the property has employed a virtual "who's who" of consulting oenologists – first flying winemaker Michel Rolland (perhaps unfairly portrayed in the wine documentary Mondevino) and now the legendary darling of the press, Philippe Cambie (aka, the guru of Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

Oenologist Philippe Cambie in Boston last month

Philippe has a rather flamboyant style with wine and a penchant for, as he puts it, "maximum ripeness consistent with elegance."

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, "There can be no doubt that the wines of Puech Haut – like the men behind them – are both generous and formidable. Châteauneuf-du-Pape would seem the more obvious analogy for these wines, not least now, given Cambie's collaboration."

The dashing and dynamic owner of Puech Haut, Gérard Bru, is nothing short of visionary and it doesn't hurt he has the funds to spare no expense in his quest for excellence.

Monsieur Bru makes one of the most sought after and in demand wines in all of France. Here is Gérard with a monster bottle of his rosé which is one of our all-time favorite wines (extra cool points – we're having rare and exclusive magnums AND 3-liter bottles of his rosé imported directly into the country this summer! Swoon.).

We've seen Puech Haut selling in Boston for $21.99/bottle, but we didn't settle for that. We negotiated special pricing on this gem so we can offer it to you for $19.99/bottle or $191.90/12 pack case ($15.99/bottle) or just $15.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine.

At less than $16/bottle, this is a MUST HAVE!

P.S.

Please join us at the store this Saturday from 3-5 pm. We're having a free wine tasting with someone special, and all of her wines are perfect for the holiday table.

Auvigue St. Veran (easily our favorite white Burgundy for the price)
Chapoutier Belleruche Côte du Rhône Blanc (a regular in our refrigerator)
Commanderie de Bargemone Rosé (a lovely Provençal rosé begging to be friends with ham)
Chapoutier La Ciboise (a tasty Rhone valley red that's off the beaten track)
Mumm Napa Valley Brut Prestige (any day with bubbles is a good one in our opinion).

See you then!
